My mural in Bradford was created as part of the BD:Walls project. It is part of Bradford’s preparations for the title of UK City of Culture 2025. The inspiration for the work was a piece of lace I found in the archives of the local museum while familiarizing myself with the impressive history of the city’s textile industry. The lace was made at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The selected fragment of the pattern, painted on the wall, reminds me of a portal to another world.
The mural is located right next to the cathedral, in a monumental district called Little Germany, which reminds us of the industrial and commercial power of this city at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries
The title “Portal” connects today’s Bradford with its rich history.
I would like to thank Bradford 2025 for inviting me to this project. Thank you, Luke Nunn and Abbe Robinson, for looking after me and for a wonderful week.
