It was ceramic objects with lace motiffs that were the first works I placed on the street in 2009. Over the last 13 years, I left several hundred of such pieces on the street.
Why laces? Because in laces there is an aesthetic code, which is deeply embedded in every culture. In every lace we find symmetry, some kind of order and harmony, isn’t that what we all seek for instinctively?
Why street art? Because it gives Freedom :)

I was invited to the picturesque Kurpie, a region in eastern Poland, where I painted a mural inspired by local folk art. Thank you to the wonderful Katarzyna Chętnik @katrinaanielachetnik and the Adam Chętnik Foundation for making this project possible. The project was based on the work of lace maker Joanna Golon.

Thank you to Martin Reed and the amazing NuArt Aberdeen team for making it possible! @nuartaberdeen @nuartfestivalen " I was lucky enough to meet one of the lace makers from the Bon Accord Bobbins Lace Group from Aberdeen, the wonderful Evelyn Currie, who told me a lot about her passion that she has been cultivating for nearly 40 years. In my mural design for Aberdeen, I used one of her lace projects as an inspiration, depicting a Scottish thistle. The Scottish thistle is the national flower of Scotland, a symbol of pride and resilience of the locals.

The history of lace making in Scotland goes back over 300 years. It was not until the middle of the eighteenth century that Anne, Duchess of Hamilton, who saw lace makers at work when travelling on the Continent, decided to provide employment for the women of her own country by introducing the art of lace making. The Duchess brought over women from France and had them teach the girls in her schools how to make “bunt lace,” as it was called."

I was invited to Sainte-Austreberthe in French Normandy by the curator of the Inspire Festival, Olivier Landes @olivierlandes. The place where I painted was unique - the source of the crystal clear Austreberthe River was right next to it. The river literally flowed out of the ground, it just suddenly appeared.
It was probably the smallest mural I’ve painted so far, the wall was only 12 square meters.
Thank you very much to the entire festival team for the hospitality, great organization of work and a wonderful, peaceful time! @inspire_festival

A large part of my murals are decorative. Decorative painting conducts a dialogue with architecture, complements it and emphasizes its values. It should be like well-chosen jewelry.

When choosing the patterns and colors of my murals, I always feel a great deal of responsibility for the final effect. I will be leaving soon, but the local people will stay with my work and look at it every day, for several years or even decades.

In Blagnac, I was asked to arrange the entrance to the Odyssud Cultural Centre, built in 1983. The brutalist nature of this architecture was a challenge. I like brutalism and I like concrete as a building material. I asked myself, if brutalism were a man, would it be a woman or a man? In my opinion, it is an architecture saturated with a strong masculine element. I paint lace patterns, and it's a very feminine theme. For centuries, only women wove lace, and this is still the case today. The combination of these two elements gives very interesting effects.

I painted the pattern of the mural free-hand. The inspiration was a fragment of bobbin lace, the photo of which I received from one of the members of the local lace making association.

Blagnac is an idyllic town in the south of France, in Occitania. It is a quiet, residential suburb of Toulouse, but it is here that the largest aerospace corporation in the world, Airbus, has its headquarters.

I was invited to Blagnac by curator Maud O’Jeanson. On the occasion of a solo exhibition of my paintings in the Odyssud cultural center, I was also asked to make two murals on the building of the city hall.

The city authorities suggested a project referring to the ancient symbol of the region - the Cross of Occitania, also known as the Cross of Toulouse or (incorrectly) the Cross of the Cathars. It is a symbol used in these areas for over a thousand years, in the Middle Ages it was the coat of arms of the St-Gilles family, Counts of Toulouse. Today it can be found everywhere - in the official symbols of local government bodies, on flags, it is engraved on the walls of houses, forged in iron on bridge balustrades, printed on postcards. It is used to mark the local subway, it is worn as jewelry, sold as souvenirs for tourists, it can be found on walls as graffiti. Some believe that the origin of the Toulouse cross is pre-Christian, initially it may have been a solar wheel with twelve rays. The numbers 3, 4 and 12 are traditionally inscribed in this symbol.

In my project, I decided to break this rhythm by deconstructing the symbol, adding new elements to it, creating a new division and new symmetries. The numbers that describe my project are 4, 5, 8 and 20. The pattern of the mural was inspired by lace technique called tatting. The works lasted 10 days, the weather for May and this region was surprisingly cool and rainy.

Many thanks to the city of Blagnac @blagnacfr and the Odyssud @odyssud_spectacles team, especially Maud O’Jeanson, for making this project possible.
