Lace making was traditionally meant to integrate the women from local communities. They would make laces together, sing, talk and share their joys and sorrows. It was an opportunity to give each other advice and support.
I have observed meetings like these in many places and I have always sensed a strong emotional bond between these women, a gratifying sense of closeness and warmth.
The installation “Lacemakers from Fundão”.
symbolically represents the vanishing of relations that were built on the basis of integration and the supportive role of the female circle.
